The ReadME Project | Hackathon | Octocat Generator | Future of Software | Coming soon: GitHub Stars
The ReadME Project
From the first interview to its launch, I worked with the Senior Customer Evidence Manager to create The ReadME Project, a now-award-winning program designed to amplify the voices of GitHub’s open source maintainers: Voices that often go unheard and unrecognized.
I took raw interview materials and crafted them into narrative stories in the voice of each maintainer or contributor. I also helped craft the mission statement and home page content, and ensure each detail was thoughtful and spoke to the very discerning open source community at a relatable level. New stories are added each week, and the platform has the versatility to adapt as the open source landscape evolves.
Within 24 hours of launch, we saw 14,760 page views and 16,453 media engagements.
In 2022, The ReadME Project won The Captivate Collective’s CAP Award for Advocacy 2.0: “Our finalists were chosen based on their demonstration of advocacy excellence and innovation within their teams and programs, and results that backed it up,” the company writes on their site. “They’re companies and individuals you may or may not know about, but they’re definitely ones to follow.”
The first featured maintainers were also thrilled:
Featured ImageMagick maintainer, Dirk Lemstra: “Sent the link to my parents today. They loved the pictures and they are happy that they can read something about what I do in Open Source now. Please tell the team I appreciate what you all did for me. And the design of the new site is also super nice. It is very humbling to be featured among those amazing people.”
Featured Sugar Labs maintainer, Samson Goddy: “The engagement is just….WOW. My community is proud and excited to see me and OSS in Africa featured by GitHub. Thank you for telling my story.”

The ReadME Podcast
With the success of The ReadME Project, GitHub put the wheels in motion for a podcast. I worked with the cross-functional team to craft the GTM comms leading up to the launch of The ReadME Podcast, as well as episode descriptions, taglines, and bios for the Spotify and Apple app stores.
Hackathon
The Hackathon page was designed as a central spot for GitHub to share upcoming free global hackathons and bring together the developer community to share and participate. We had over 405 approved submissions for the first Hackathon, and over 54,000 unique site visits, with the most visitors coming from India.
Octocat Generator
The Octocat Generator gives loyal GitHub developers a chance to represent themselves with their very own Octocat. Choose your hair, clothing, accessories, and more, then set it as your profile photo and share on social media. Strategy-wise, the idea is to build a deeper and more personal connection with the GitHub brand by identifying with the famous Octocat.
We had 422,570 page views and 184,260 sessions, each an average of 2 minutes and 37 seconds. Users visited from the U.S., China, India, Brazil, Japan, UK, Germany, Canada, France, and Russia.
Landing page / Generator
The challenge here was to appeal to people around the globe, who speak dozen of different languages (coding and otherwise).

Future of Software
The narrative behind the Future of Software is simple: the GitHub community is building the future together. From individual developers to teams and companies, everyone is learning from each other, creating a growing, open ecosystem that drives the accessibility, connection, and change needed to power a future we can all get behind.
FEATURED BIOS
Each featured coder was inspiring and passionate, with a clear path forward.
Customer Stories
GitHub’s exhaustive collection of customer stories is a testament to their impact on modern enterprises. These stories must inform readers of the value behind GitHub in an enticing and illustrative way without being pushy or self-aggrandizing. I’ve written 26 customer stories for GitHub, many of which you can read below (some are not yet published).
